A Machine From 1939 Is Making Our Best Wintergreen Creams Yet
In December 2025, our depositor died. That machine had one job: heat the cream to liquid, drop flat discs onto the belt, move on. Then, one day, it didn’t.
So Josh went to the backup. The backup happens to be a Friend machine that was manufactured in 1939. It works differently. Instead of heating the cream to liquid, it takes the cream after the cream beater has worked it for 30 minutes, after three large paddles have aligned every sugar crystal until the texture is completely smooth, when it’s firm and cool and ready. A wire slices each piece to exactly the right height as it presses through. The result is a dome instead of a disc.
Same recipe. Same wintergreen cream center made with simple ingredients. Same dark chocolate blend from the enrober. Same 7 to 10 days of resting while the centers soften back to that melt-in-your-mouth texture. Just a different shape from a machine that’s been doing this longer than most of us have been alive.
The old machine survived. The candy got better. We’re calling them Wintergreen Creams now. Twelve pieces in a 5 oz box. No artificial dyes.
